A Small Remodeling Company Brings Triples Their Revenue with Google Maps

My favorite case study is from my own family business, NL Kile Construction. As a small remodeling company in North Idaho, it never took much to keep us busy. However, in 2018 we found ourselves in a slow patch.

The majority of our jobs in the last decade came from referrals and Homeadvisor. Over the years, HomeAdvisor got too expensive for the low quality of leads they provided. At this particular time, referrals just weren’t coming in. We had to figure out how to attract customers on our own.

As the owner of a digital marketing company, I knew exactly what to do. We collected the pictures from our jobs over the years and gave our website a much-needed facelift. Then, we updated and optimized our Google Maps listing and connected to our website.

I used Google Ads to kickstart the whole thing and brought in 3 jobs that carried us over the remaining winter months. I only had to spend $250 on ads to bring in $35,000 worth of projects. Not bad! We asked those happy customers to leave us some reviews on our Google Maps listing. We are over 10 at this time.

That was almost 3 years ago. Over this time period, our website and Google Maps listing has kept us as busy as we can be. In 2020 alone we had over 75 inquiries about projects and did 3x the revenue of our best year prior. If we wanted to hire more people we could have quadrupled for sure, but we don’t want to be that big.

What did we do when we had too many leads?

At one point the sheer volume of calls and emails we were getting was just too much for us to keep up with. This is when I set up an automated calendar to allow people to schedule appointments without having to talk to me on the phone. It spits out all of their information into our CRM so all we have to do is remember to check our calendar and go meet people when the time comes.

I have our office person call and confirm the appointments just to make sure we aren’t wasting any time. It really is the perfect setup for a contractor that is out in the field working all the time and doesn’t have time to answer the phone all day.
