A Contractor’s Guide to Growing Your Business and Attracting More Clients

I’ve been in the contracting world for more than half of my life so I know how important it is to have a steady flow of clients to keep your business thriving. In my recent video, I shared some tips on how I get leads and customers so you can learn from my experience and attract more customers to yours. In this article, I will expand on those ideas, providing a comprehensive guide on how to save money on leads and build a strong online presence that will help you stand out from the competition.

Step 1: Harness the Power of Word-of-Mouth Marketing

Perhaps the most effective way to grow your business is by providing exceptional service to your clients, ensuring they refer you to their friends and family. It sounds like common sense but it’s still important to focus on this. There are always ways you can improve this part of your process and help your customers refer you to others. Word-of-mouth marketing is mega powerful and can go a long way in attracting new clients. Always strive to exceed your clients’ expecations and encourage them to spread the word about your services.

Check out this video where I dive more into Word of Mouth marketing and some ideas on how to get more customers this way.

Step 2: Establish a Professional Online Presence

Having a professional website is crucial in today’s digital age. Duh! Pretty soon everyone is going to be asking their AI robot to find them a contractor so you better be able to be found by the robot or you are toast. The main part of your online presence is still your website.

Your website is there to showcase your work, highlight your services, and provide potential clients with an easy way to get in touch with you. By investing in a well-designed website, you’re building a foundation for your online presence and setting your business apart from competitors. Like yourself and your business, your website should continually grow and change with your company. It’s not the Statue of David. It’s a representation of your company. Your company isn’t written in stone so neither should your website be.

Step 3: Optimize Your Website for Search Engines

Search engine optimization (SEO) is essential for helping potential clients find your business online. By optimizing your website for search engines, you increase the likelihood of appearing on the first page of Google, making it easier for customers to find you when they’re searching for contractors in your area. By doing this, you’ll save money on lead costs and generate more sustainable and profitable leads.

Step 4: Leverage Google My Business

Creating and optimizing a Google My Business listing is vital for your online visibility. It helps your business appear in local searches and on Google Maps, allowing potential clients to quickly find and contact you. Ensure your listing is accurate, up-to-date, and provides relevant information about your services, hours, and contact details.

Your website is closely related to your Google listing so the information you put on there is going to have a direct impact on how and for what your listing shows up when people are searching. Even though these are separate things, they go together like peas and carrots.

Step 5: Build Trust Through Reviews

These days people buy like 7 things per day on Amazon so they have deeply ingrained habits for how to shop online. These habits get carried over when they are looking for contractors. When your company shows up next to other companies, people automatically judge you based on the little review stars by your name. If you have more reviews and better rating than your competitors, you’ll win the game. Simple, huh?

So, collect and display positive reviews on your website and Google My Business listing to establish trust with potential customers. When people read glowing testimonials from your past clients, they’re more likely to feel confident in hiring you for their projects. Encourage satisfied clients to leave reviews and actively respond to them, showing that you value their feedback.

The Bottom Line

Growing your contracting business and attracting more clients doesn’t have to be complicated. By focusing on providing excellent service, establishing a professional online presence, and leveraging SEO and Google My Business, you’ll not only save money on leads but also create a strong foundation that wil help your business thrive. Remember, it’s not about finding jobs; it’s about being found by customers who are looking for the services you provide.
